Pianist/Keyboardist Mark Adams serves up a new approach to Soul Jazz. This is not the raw soul jazz of the 60’s; he takes a gentler, more contemporary approach. The eight originals reflect an elegant style, with a strong sense of traditional jazz. He plays bebop over funk grooves, but Adams spices everything up with splashes of R&B and Hip-Hop grafted onto a Jazz mode. He also does a high-tech take that is unique but too short on Herbie Hancock’s “Maiden Voyage”. Mark Adams is a Great pianist with a unique and fresh approach to smooth jazz and soul jazz, he may just be ahead of his time.
