On the new MCG Jazz CD, Vinho Do Porto featuring special guest Jay Ashby, Portinho Trio mixes some great songs from Brazil and the New York Jazz scene. Some favorites are \u201cHomage To Tom\u201d with its feeling of Antonio Carlos Jobim in the keyboards. \u201cSatin Doll\u201d and \u201cFootprints\u201d are novel interpretations of two jazz standards from different eras of jazz history. \u201cVai De Vez,\u201d led by the trombone, is a light and airy groove for the quartet. \u201cCan\u00e7\u00e3o Que Morre No Ar\u201d could be called a ballad, but with Portinho\u2019s drums it becomes a soft groove. On \u201cAquarela Do Brasil\u201d Klaus Mueller\u2019s piano intro is an eloquent set-up for Jay Ashby\u2019s trombone on the melody.<\/p>\n
