Description
EVERY HUMAN BEING HAS THREADS OR INFLUENCES THAT MAKE UP THE TAPESTRY OF THEIR LIFE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY EVIDENT FOR MUSICIANS.
This project pays homage to the threads that have woven the tapestry of Max Leake’s musical life. The musicians on these recordings all play a role in who Leake is as a musician and as a person and are considered family. Every song in this two-CD set was specially chosen for its contribution to his musical development. Leake started his professional career playing the Hammond B3 organ and it remains a thread in how he approaches all of his music. Leake began his musical training early and by the time he was 15 was working with local Pittsburgh bands and backing up national acts in local supper clubs. At the age of 18, he was traveling around the country with acts such as the Ink Spots and the Marcels. An accomplished keyboardist, Max Leake has been recording, composing, arranging, and performing for 30 years with some of the best jazz and blues artists in the world including Roger Humphries, Stanley Turrentine, Rick Margitza, Dwayne Dolphin, Henry Johnson, Rebecca Parris, Billy Price, Joe Negri, the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild Orchestra, Slide Hampton, David “Fathead” Newman, Don Laterski, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.
